A brief history of Gilbert Days

The annual Gilbert Days Parade down Gilbert Road is a longstanding tradition and has drawn thousands to the downtown area for many years. Gilbert days started as a small celebration of Cinco de Mayo in 1957, and after being moved to a cooler season it grew into the multi-day event we now have. Mail is carried on horseback to cities in the Gilbert region in commemoration of the Pony Express for the festival.

In the old days, it really meant bringing together all of the Gilbert people downtown It used to be a real family affair and was done in conjunction with a big barbecue the American Legion put on.
